Dr. phil. Christine Lang grew up in Bremen and studied cultural studies, art history and literature at the University of Bremen, then at the Humboldt University in Berlin, as well as film directing at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. From 2009 to 2015, she was an artistic-scientific assistant professor at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, where she later completed her doctorate in media studies. Since 2016, she has taught at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, the UDK, the DFFB, the FU Berlin and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, among others. In 2024, she will be a visiting professor for artistic research at the Babelsberg Film University. From October 2024, she will be university professor for film and media studies at the Film Academy Vienna.
Since 2022 in the coordination team of the German-speaking Screenplay Research Network.
Her own films have screened at numerous international festivals and won awards. The feature film ‘Kalte Probe/Cold rehearsal’, realised with Constanze Ruhm, premiered at the Berlinale in 2013, while her short film ‘As if we were somebody else’ was shown at the Hof International Film Festival in 2015. From 2014 to 2021, she worked as an author and dramaturge at the theatre (with director Volker Lösch), and from 2021 to 2024 as a freelance dramaturge for films in an art context and for TV series productions. Since 2021, she has also been a lecturer in film and series dramaturgy at ZDF.
